Terrible People

a 10- Minute Play by Douglas Killingtree

Director

Produced by 490 Top Play Direction, University of Oregon

Tasked to find a 10-minute play for my 490 Top Play Direction final, I wanted to strengthen my collaboration with New Works…

and asked Douglas Killingtree, M.A. Theatre Arts & Folklore candidate, if he had any queer stories that I could direct. Within the next week, I was given the first draft of Terrible People, a contemporary farcical queer story that explores the heteronormative traditions of marriage, friendship, morality, and hookups that are too good to forget. Over the next few weeks, I worked closely with Killingtree through a seven-draft process to reach what we thought was the strongest and boldest version of his story.

I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work alongside such a talented playwright and to be part of the early stages of a queer new play.
