Adventuring into the moors…

I had never before worked on a play with a text as rich and complex as Silverman’s, The Moors. With this, I felt inspired to introduce new ways of creative exploration for actors in the early stages of building their character. By creating and introducing my Character Exploration Through Artwork, actors are tasked to find multidisciplinary artworks (paintings, songs, poems, etc.) that answer prompts specific to the nature of the production. See the link for more on these projects, actor examples, and examples in other productions.

With the mentorship provided by Tricia Rodley (Director), I felt I was able to dive into the production alongside her and build the production together. Rehearsals consisted of assisting Rodley through their blocking process, giving my perspective from alternative sides of our thrust-style audience. This allowed me to grow as a director in my understanding of viewpoints in unique theatrical structures. I was able to voice my perspective to Rodley and workshop alternative blocking that would best fit the three-sided audience perspective, with actors.
